WHAT IS MATCHA?
Matcha is a type of green tea that is made by taking young green tea leaves and grinding them into a bright green powder. Unlike regular tea that is infused in water, matcha powder is whisked with hot water.
Contrary to popular belief, matcha is not Japanese. It originated from China over a thousand years ago and was brought over to Japan in the 12th century by a Buddhist monk.
WHY DRINK MATCHA?
Matcha is better for you. It’s healthier for your body.
It’s good for your skin. It is easier to make. All you need is hot water and a whisk of any kind. Making matcha is also a calming ritual that takes away stress. It is also a versatile ingredient that can be used in both drinks and food.
SOURCED ACROSS THREE PROVINCES
Zhejiang · Guizhou · Sichuan
Our ceremonial-grade matcha is a premium blend sourced from these top tea-growing regions.
By sourcing locally within China, we reduce our carbon footprint and support more sustainable practices — no long-haul overseas shipping, less fuel consumption, and lower air pollution. We will soon be launching a new Single Origin Ceremonial Grade Matcha from Zhejiang for the true tea connoisseur.
Ceremonial-grade matcha is made from the first harvest leaves, then stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder — less than 10 microns in size. While “matcha grades” aren’t legally regulated, quality can be determined by the harvest timing, processing method, and smoothness of the powder. True ceremonial-grade matcha doesn’t require filtering and should whisk into a smooth, non-clumping froth — a sign of freshness, purity, and craftsmanship.
